In Sun Valley, Ski Condos Once Bought as Lockers Are, Well, Ski Condos Once Again

Yesterday, I told you about the Sun Valley area of Idaho, that popular ski resort where Bruce Willis is unloading a lot of property, commercial and residential. Sun Valley was the country’s first ski resort, but prices are very soft. And now, even the condos that the rich bought as ski lockers are half price. Apparently, in Sun Valley, people like to live in-town because free bus shuttle service is offered to the base of the ski mountains. Nice, but still I hate schlepping skis. Others with fat checkbooks do, too: during the boom, the rich were buying small condos at the base of the resort to use as — get this — ski lockers! No kidding! Who did this? Steve Wynn, Tom Ford, probably Bruce Willis. Can you imagine having a whole one bedroom ski condo conveniently located steps from the lift just to store your skis, poles, boots and whatever else? Now those condos are almost half price and being marketed once again as residences. The lower priced condo is a single, the higher priced is actually two singles combined with two bedrooms. They are adjacent, so someone could buy both and blow out the walls for a pretty great spot. I’m told the most recent sale of these “ski lockers’ happened this month at $267,500. Sales of these condos (single units) in 2007-2008 were in the $410,000- $549,000 range. That’s one pricey locker!

This is sorta of an interesting concept. It was always rumored around here that these studio/one bedroom condos were used for this but I could never actually verify it. It is great to see though that these are up for sale at somewhat of a reasonable price. I work for a <a href="http://www.blackdiamondsv.com>Sun Valley Vacation Rental</a> company, perhaps I'll have to speak with my owner about picking one up!

That's one of the more unique ways to use a one bedroom condo. Some might even call it excessive…but when you're skiing, it really would be be nice to have your very own 1 bedroom pre-ski and apres-ski suite conveniently located just below the lift. But I'd only want to rent it…
