It’s no surprise that Hawaii captures the imagination of people dreaming of a getaway. Tropical breezes, the deep blue Pacific, technicolor sunsets, and lush greenery set the stage for a dream vacation or the ultimate home away from home.

Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and Luxury Portfolio International have announced the winners of the HGTV Ultimate House Hunt, a month-long online contest held on each year.

The contest highlights exceptional homes from across the globe in eight exciting categories: Waterfront Homes, Master Retreats, International Homes, Living Large in Small Spaces, Bringing The Outside In, Kids’ Spaces, Classic Living and Making an Entrance. All featured homes are represented by members of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World and Luxury Portfolio International. Consumers vote for their favorite, and a winner is chosen at the end.

This year, Hawaii cleaned up, winning honors in three categories as well as the overall winner. Massachusetts homes won in two categories, as did Florida homes and the International award winner is located in Lugano, Switzerland.

After over 1 million votes, the overall winner and the winner in the Waterfront homes category was a spectacular Honolulu, Hawaii home with 180-degree views of the ocean from every room in the house (pictured above). The home listed by Locations LLC has a pool with a flagstone deck that spans nearly the full length of the house. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase incredible views of the Pacific Ocean from the living room and kitchen.

Another Hawaii winner was in the category of  Bringing The Outside In: Honors went to a home in Kukio, Hawaii, presented by Hawaii Life. This five-bedroom home has views of the Pu’u Ku’ili hill and the Pacific Ocean from a modern contemporary porch,  the ultimate lanai. Chic outdoor furniture and ceiling fans make indoor-outdoor living comfortable and enjoyable.

The third Hawaii property is the Living Large In Small Spaces Winner, also presented by Hawaii Life. The oceanfront Poipu property in Kauai, Hawaii, sits adjacent to the world famous Poipu Kukui’ula Harbor and has unobstructed views of the ocean, mountains, and Kukui’ula golf course. The size is a bit more modest at three bedrooms and 1,728 square feet and with the view it’s no surprise that this home has been a popular vacation rental.

In the Classic Homes category, we see our first Massachusetts home, Kingsview in the South Shore town of Cohasset. This nine-bedroom home presented by William Raveis Real Estate, Mortgage & Insurance is long on traditional New England charm. The shingle-style home at the mouth of Little Harbor has water views from most every room. This landmark residence is situated on 2 acres with spectacular gardens featured in the American Gardens Program at the Smithsonian.

A more playful side of East Coast style is showcased in the Kids’ Spaces winner, located in a small Cape Cod town. The kids’ room in this home in Truro, Massachusetts, listed by Robert Paul Properties, features wooden bunk beds, bright patterned bed linens, pillows, and a rug to make a fun-filled space that opens completely to the outdoors.

The Making an Entrance winner is a curb appeal captivator. The Mediterranean home in Longboat Key, Florida, has a polished brick paver driveway leading up to the front door and attached garage. Villa de Como presented by Michael Saunders & Company is nestled among palm trees and manicured hedges on the peaceful northern end of Longboat Key.

Florida’s love for pools gets full expression in the Master Retreats winner, a  Jacksonville, Florida, home presented by Watson Realty Corp. that has a master suite that sits adjacent to the screened-in swimming pool. Sets of French doors allow easy access between the two spaces.

The International Homes winner whisks us to beautiful Lugano, Switzerland. The aqua blue water of Lake Lugano shimmers enticingly through walls of sliding glass. This Swiss penthouse presented by WETAG consulting combines traditional and contemporary elements for timeless appeal with a particularly decadent note struck by abundant fur throws.
