Daingerfield’s Historical and Bustling Greer Farm On the Market

It’s not often that a sustainable farm and ranch with plenty of income opportunity comes on the market, which makes the fact that Greer Farm is now on the market even more remarkable.

The farm, which is located in Daingerfield, has 385 acres. In addition to hosting weddings and events and visitors in cabins, the farm also provides farmers markets all over Texas with jellies, jams, beef, pork, lamb, eggs, vegetables, and fruit.

“Our farm has been in continuous operation since the first Anglo settlers arrived in this part of Texas in the mid-1840s,” the farm’s website says. “Prior to then, the land was home to Caddo Indians.”

The current owners purchased a ranch in nearby Rocky Branch in 2005. “Bounded by a 16-acre lake on one end, most all of the land can be used for grazing or crops,” the website continued. “Until a few years ago, it was used for peanuts and sweet potatoes. Before that, watermelons were raised here.”

The listing includes that acreage and the Gillis Home Place as well. Listing agent Clayton Pilgrim says there is also 160 acres in improved timber production; pasture fenced for livestock, a 13-acre stock lake; a fishing and recreational lake stocked with bass, a 9-acre berry, fruit and citrus farm; a mountaintop with a 40-mile view; and four miles of trails to explore by foot or ATV.

And the 5,044-square-foot colonial revival home may have been built in the 1850s, but it’s been lovingly restored. Perks include an executive kitchen, formal dining, and a beautiful master suite. All told, there are four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half baths.

Four cabins built along the lake are great for weekend rentals – and each cabin has a kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom.

A large shop has living quarters for either guests or caretakers. There is also a standalone industrial kitchen for catering for events. There are three wells and several outbuildings for storage and work.

The farm is listed for $3.5 million.
