Queen Anne Charmer in Victoria Brings Plenty of Tourist Opportunities

Victoria, Texas, is often called “the Crossroads” because of how close it is to some of the biggest attractions and cities in the state.

Indeed, at first it might seem like Victoria wouldn’t be an obvious choice for a vacation retreat, but when you realize that almost anything a vacationer would want to do is within a two-hour day-trip, suddenly the town seems like a great place for a base operations.

Victoria is within a two-hour drive of Corpus Christi, Shiner (and the Spoetzl Brewery), the Texas Independence Wine Trail, Goliad State Park, the Great Coastal Texas Barbecue Trail, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin.

And Realtor Eileen Stewart of Coldwell Banker The Ron Brown Company has a restored 1880s Queen Anne just off Main Street that could make a perfect base of operations for a family ready for easy summer vacations. It is a perfect choice for this week’s Historical Shelter.

This 1880’s classic Queen Anne has been meticulously restored to its original grandeur,” Stewart said, adding that the restoration has actually won awards.

The four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home still boasts its original long leaf pine floors, intricate wainscoting, and original floor tile in the foyer that bears the name of the family that built the home and lived in it for more than 130 years.

Twelve-foot ceilings and transom doorways grace each room.

“Each room has been thoughtfully renovated to enhance the original features while creating a sense of history,” Steward said. “Although all new, the feel of the Victorian era is conveyed in the period designer wallpaper in the parlor and sumptuous dining room, the bathrooms emulate those from the 20’s, while the kitchen embraces the feel of the 40’s or 50’s, while boasting new custom cabinets, high-end stainless appliances, a center island, and granite counters.”

In a bid to marry the old with the new, the restoration included a breakfast nook, a modern master suite, and an upstairs laundry room.

And there is plenty of room for play, too — the backyard is large and lush, and the home still has its original carriage house. There is also a full walk-up attic ready for someone to create even more play space in — or even another bedroom suite.

The home is listed for $599,000.
