Anne Rice’s Former St. Charles Street NOLA Pad Up for Sale – Again

Fans of southern gothic novelist Anne Rice know that New Orleans is prime territory if you’re looking for settings from some of her most famous books. But one of her abodes (she’s had a few) in New Orleans is now up for sale, again.
Located at 3711 St. Charles in Uptown New Orleans, the mansion was sold by Rice to new owners in 2011 (the list price was $3.19 million).
It is said that one of the families from her fictional Mayfair series “lived” at this home, which Rice bought while she was writing “Lasher.”
The home was listed again in 2013 for $2.65 million before getting a price reduction to $2.4 million by 2014. It was listed last year at $5 million, and the price has been reduced to $4.5 million now.

The Victorian mansion was built in 1883 and has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and more than 7,600 square feet of living space, all lovingly restored. The original millwork, stained glass, and working fireplaces speak to a diligent and grand restoration effort.
Farnsworth said that the grand center hall has its original stained glass window and mahogany and cypress staircase. The formal entertaining rooms still feature their elaborate moldings and mantles, as well as the stunning chandeliers.
And when we say formal entertaining rooms, we mean a parlor, a dining room, sitting room and study, among other entertaining areas.
And that kitchen. Lord, that kitchen. Farnsworth calls it a “dream gourmet kitchen,” and she’s right. It also has a wet bar and is open to a large, light-filled entertaining and dining area.
The master suite is stunning — and the en-suite bath (with its glass-enclosed, two-rain head shower with windows made of Alphonse Mucha-inspired Art Nouveau stained glass) is all about the marble, and goes for ages (as does the entire room of closets).
And if the house isn’t stunning enough, the corner lot with its immaculately manicured lawn and outdoor entertaining areas mean the entertaining can continue outside of the stunning home.
