When searching for a ranch property as a second home, there’s often a laundry list of “must haves” that buyers prioritize. While they may rank in different order, they usually include luxury amenities, nearby recreation, and incredible views. As attendees at the recent SecondShelters.com preview of Alpine Mountain Ranch & Club found out, this fantastic development in Colorado has everything — and then some!

Who doesn’t love a great Christmas party? And better yet, who doesn’t love a good Christmas party where you don’t have to do any of the work? If it sounds too good to be true, you must not be a resident of Long Cove, one of the best second home communities in Texas. Situated on Cedar Creek Lake, this stunning vacation home community is a popular destination for Dallasites, considering it’s a getaway that’s only an hour drive south of the Metroplex.
Of course, being so close to the city means that you have access to some great amenities and events, and to show their appreciation, Long Cove went all out at the annual Holiday Bash this year. See for yourself after the jump!
Long Cove on Cedar Creek Lake, one of the country’s premiere waterfront communities located just an hour southeast of Dallas, recently announced plans for a new putting course, which will be the second-largest putting green of its kind in the country and the third largest in the world. Designed by renowned golf course designer David Zinkand, the putting course, which is named “Thistle Never Dhu,” was carefully designed to allow golfers of all ages and skill sets to practice while enjoying time with family and friends. The course will be completed in spring 2018.
“Thistle Never Dhu will provide challenges and fun for all of our owners and their guests, whether they’re accomplished players, like some of our owners, or those who have never picked up a club,” said Long Cove founder Don McNamara. “We wanted to build something unique to Texas that would challenge competitors but would also appeal to the whole family.”
With wildfires completely ravaging the Northern California countryside, many wineries and vineyards have been affected. Dallas-based Craig and Kathryn Hall, vinters of award-winning HALL wines, made a statement about the tragic disaster:
As if it was even possible, Boot Ranch’s award-winning Hal Sutton-designed course just got better. The 18-hole golf mecca in the Texas Hill Country now offers improved playability with an enormous, tailor-made practice area. We got a chance to preview the completely redesigned links at this incredible resort just outside of Fredericksburg last weekend, and we came away absolutely impressed.
To find out more about the impressive upgrades this already phenomenal facility, we chatted with Barbara Koenig of Boot Ranch, who took me on a quick tour of the still under-construction course as the resort graciously hosted us for our editorial retreat Sept. 15-17.
“I’ve now fallen madly in love with a tiny home, and one may be in my future,” she said.
Naturally, our first thought was that these tiny homes are perfect for folks who want a getaway — and quick! This well-designed tiny homes line by architect Jeffrey Dungan of Jeffrey Dungan Architects makes vacation home ownership affordable, and with quality materials that will stand the test of time.
Instead of waiting more than a year for a new vacation home to be built, you’ll only have to think in terms of weeks before you can sit out on your cove, mountainside, or river.
